Grilled Cabbage Wedges

Enjoy a no-fuss side dish, prepared on the grill or in a cast-iron grilling pan. This vegetable side cooks up in just 20 minutes with minimal ingredients. The best part? It’s incredibly budget friendly, plus raw cabbage stores well in the fridge for an extended time, so this recipe is ideal for meal prep or to feed a large family. Drizzle with a homemade dressing that also tastes delicious over salads or pasta! This easy BBQ side dish is a winning recipe for summer.

Ingredients

Yield: Serves 6

Total Time: 20 minutes

1 large head of red cabbage
1 ½ + ½ tablespoons Kikkoman® Sesame Oil, divided
Salt and pepper to taste
 
For the Dressing
¼ cup olive oil
⅓ cup Kikkoman® Rice Vinegar
2 large carrots, peeled and chopped
2 tablespoon fresh ginger, chopped
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon honey
Salt to taste
Cilantro to garnish

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat grill to medium-high.
  2. While the grill heats up, prepare the cabbage. Slice into wedges. Use toothpicks to keep the cabbage together when grilling. Cover on all sides with 1 ½ tablespoons of sesame oil, salt and pepper.
  3. Once the grill is hot enough, place cabbage directly on the grill. Grill cabbage for 5-6 minutes, carefully flip, and grill for another 2-3 minutes depending on the thickness and until tender on the inside, but crispy on the outside.
  4. In a blender or food processor, puree olive oil, rice vinegar, carrots, ginger, lime juice, honey, ½ tablespoon sesame oil and salt until smooth.
  5. Top the grilled cabbage wedges with cilantro and carrot-ginger dressing. Enjoy!
