Umami Grilled Steak and Mushroom Bites

Umami Grilled Steak and Mushroom Bites | These elegant steak bites are a flavor-packed win for grilling season! Pair cubes of beef with juicy mushrooms for finger food with a boost of umami flavor. The bites make an easy appetizer for family dinners or casual backyard barbecues all summer long! Serve these versatile steak bites with a quick homemade dipping sauce as a game day snack or an amuse-bouche to celebrate a fancier occasion.

1 ½ pounds cubed sirloin steak
1 tablespoon + 1 tablespoon olive oil, divided
2 tablespoons Kikkoman® Soy Sauce
1 teaspoon paprika
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon dried thyme
¼ teaspoon black pepper
8 ounces cremini mushrooms, halved
2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley

For Dipping Sauce
¼ cup Kikkoman® Hoisin Sauce
2 tablespoons Kikkoman® Rice Vinegar
1 teaspoon minced chives


  1. In a medium bowl, combine cubed steak with olive oil, soy sauce, paprika, garlic, thyme, and black pepper. Stir well to coat steak. Set aside at room temperature for 15 minutes. In a separate bowl, combine cremini mushrooms and remaining olive oil. Toss to coat.
  2. In a separate small bowl, stir together ingredients for sauce.
  3. Heat outdoor grill to 450°F and place a medium cast-iron pan on grill. Close lid and allow pan to heat up for about 10 minutes. Add steak to hot pan using tongs and sear for 1-2 minutes with lid open. Turn steak bites using tongs and sear 2 minutes longer.
  4. Move steak to one side of pan. Add mushrooms and stir gently to coat in juices from pan. Close grill lid and cook for 3-4 minutes longer.
  5. Use a silicone handle cover or a heavy-duty oven mitt to remove pan from grill. Stir together steak bites and mushrooms and top with chopped parsley. Serve hot with dipping sauce.
