About this recipe

These juicy, flavorful teriyaki chicken skewers are the perfect blend of sweet, smoky, and savory. Marinated in Kikkoman® Teriyaki Takumi, Korean BBQ with hints of Kikkoman® Sesame Oil and grilled to perfection, these are a crowd-pleasing dish – whether you’re planning a backyard BBQ or just spicing up a weeknight dinner.

Tips & Tricks

  • Use thigh meat for juicier chicken, but chicken breasts work great too.
  • Want a vegetarian twist? Try substituting tofu or mushrooms in place of chicken.
  • If you’re short on time, a 30-minute marinade will still infuse plenty of flavor.
  • These skewers pair perfectly with jasmine rice or a simple cucumber salad.
  • Leftovers? Slide the grilled chicken and veggies off the skewers and toss them into a stir fry or wrap.

ingredients

½ cup Kikkoman® Teriyaki Takumi, Korean BBQ
1 tablespoon Kikkoman® Sesame Oil
1½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into 1½-inch pieces
Wooden or metal skewers
2 small bell peppers, cut into 1½-inch pieces
1 medium red onion, cut into wedges
Sesame seeds for garnish

directions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine teriyaki sauce with sesame oil. Stir well. Reserve 2 tablespoons for brushing. Add the chicken pieces to bowl and toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 8 hours.
  2. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning. Preheat grill to medium-high heat. Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers, alternating with pieces of bell pepper and red onion.
  3. Grill the skewers for 10 to 12 minutes, turning every few minutes, until the chicken is fully cooked through and lightly charred. Brush with additional reserved sauce during the last few minutes of grilling.
  4. Remove the skewers from the grill. Sprinkle with sesame seeds before serving.

THE STORY OF SOY SAUCE

Even people who love soy sauce and use it all the time are often surprised to learn what it is and how it’s made. We make ours from just four simple ingredients—water, soybeans, wheat, and salt. Those ingredients are transformed through a traditional brewing process—much like making wine or beer—that has remained unchanged for centuries.
