A lot has changed since 1957, when Kikkoman Corporation established its North American subsidiary, Kikkoman International Inc. (known today as Kikkoman Sales USA, Inc.). In those days, soy sauce was an unfamiliar ingredient found mostly in Chinese and Japanese restaurants.
But America’s tastes were expanding, and Kikkoman wanted to be a part of that. We believed that if we could show American cooks that soy sauce is not just for Asian cooking, Kikkoman would find a place in the American pantry, right alongside the ketchup, the mustard, the salt and the pepper.
Today, that dream has become a reality. Soy sauce has become one of North America’s favorite seasonings, and Kikkoman is far and away the leading brand. And although we’ve added many convenient sauce and seasoning products to our lineup, our core product, traditionally brewed soy sauce, has remained unchanged. It is brewed slowly, from water, soybeans, wheat, and salt, and aged for full flavor like a fine wine, just as it has been for centuries.
