Over 20 Centuries of Evolving Tradition.

Soy sauce is one of the world’s oldest seasonings, dating back more than 2,000 years.

Over the centuries, it found its way to Japan, where the traditional fermentation process was refined and perfected to create shoyu, the rich flavorful seasoning we know as Japanese soy sauce.

Today, Kikkoman operates as a global company, rooted in the tradition established by its founding families during the Edo period (1603–1867).
