Asian Short Ribs with Star Anise and Ginger

ingredients

Vegetable oil, as needed
2 pounds bone-in beef short ribs
1 cup sliced onions
1 cup rice wine
1 cup beef stock
2 tablespoons Kikkoman Soy Sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar or palm sugar
10 garlic cloves
3 star anise pods
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon butter
Snipped chives
Wasabi paste

directions

In saute pan, heat oil. Brown short ribs and onions; transfer to oven-proof casserole. Deglaze saute pan with wine; add wine, stock, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, star anise and ginger to casserole. Cover and braise in 300 degree oven until meat is falling off bones.

Remove short ribs; strain and degrease liquid. Simmer short ribs in liquid until liquid is reduced and flavorful. Add butter and simmer until incorporated. Garnish with chives and a small amount of wasabi paste.
