Satisfy your cravings with a classic Cheesesteak Sandwich that’s loaded with bold flavors. Tender slices of sirloin or ribeye are seared to perfection and combined with sautéed onions and bell peppers. A hint of Kikkoman® Less Sodium Soy Sauce adds depth and richness to the savory filling, while melted provolone or white cheddar cheese ties it all together. Perfect for recreating a bit of Philadelphia’s iconic food scene, this recipe brings together all the elements of a great cheesesteak. Thinly sliced beef remains juicy and flavorful, paired with perfectly caramelized vegetables that add texture and sweetness. The melted cheese provides a creamy, indulgent finish, making this an irresistible treat for any occasion. Whether you’re looking for an easy weeknight dinner or a crowd-pleaser for game day, these sandwiches deliver every time.

For a personal touch, experiment with different cheeses or add mushrooms for extra heartiness. If you’ve been searching for a straightforward way to enjoy this beloved sandwich at home, this recipe offers a balance of simplicity and flavor that’s hard to beat.

Tips and Tricks

  • Freezing the steak for 20-30 minutes before slicing makes it easier to cut thin strips, ensuring even cooking.
  • Toast the hoagie buns lightly before assembling the sandwich to keep them sturdy and prevent sogginess.

ingredients

1 tablespoon neutral cooking oil
1 pound sirloin or ribeye steak, very thinly sliced
1 cup yellow onion, sliced
1 cup green bell pepper, sliced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon black pepper
¼ cup Kikkoman® Less Sodium Soy Sauce
4 hoagie buns
½ cup provolone or white cheddar cheese, grated

directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400ºF. Heat oil over medium heat in a large skillet for 2 minutes. Add steak in an even layer and cook for 3 minutes.
  2. Add onion and bell pepper. Season with oregano, garlic powder, and black pepper. Cook 5 minutes longer, stirring regularly. Add soy sauce and continue to cook for 2 minutes longer.
  3. Place hoagie buns on a baking sheet. Divide steak and vegetables between 4 hoagie buns and sprinkle each evenly with cheese. Transfer to oven and bake for 5-6 minutes, until cheese is melted and buns are lightly toasted. Serve hot.

THE STORY OF SOY SAUCE

Even people who love soy sauce and use it all the time are often surprised to learn what it is and how it’s made. We make ours from just four simple ingredients—water, soybeans, wheat, and salt. Those ingredients are transformed through a traditional brewing process—much like making wine or beer—that has remained unchanged for centuries.
