2 rice cooker cups Japanese short grain rice (360 ml)
1 tablespoon Kikkoman® Sesame Oil
2 tablespoons Kikkoman® Soy Sauce

Tare (Sauce)
1 tablespoon Kikkoman® Aji-Mirin
2 tablespoons Kikkoman® Soy Sauce

directions

  1. Cook rice according to the rice cooker instructions. Once it’s cooked, transfer it to a large bowl.
  2. Add sesame oil and soy sauce.
  3. Combine the rice and seasonings together.
  4. In a small bowl, make Tare (sauce) by combining the soy sauce and mirin.
  5. Divide the rice into equal 8 portions.
  6. Wet your hands and make 8 rice balls. Gently add pressure to make rice into balls.
  7. Typically, rice balls are a triangle shape.
  8. Put the rice balls on the parchment paper.
  9. Turn on medium heat and cook for 2 minutes. Meanwhile, brush the top of onigiri with the sauce and let the bottom of the rice ball brown.
  10. Turn and cook the other side for 1 minute. Meanwhile, brush on top of the rice balls.
  11. Turn and cook for 1 minute. Remove from the heat and serve immediately.
