ingredients

⅔ cup Kikkoman® Less Sodium Soy Sauce
⅓ cup fresh lime juice
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons minced chives or green onion
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 teaspoon chili powder
3 pounds chicken drumsticks
½ teaspoon cornstarch
¼ cup water

directions

  1. For the marinade, whisk together soy sauce, lime juice, honey, olive oil, chives, garlic, and chili powder in a small bowl until honey is thoroughly mixed in. Reserve half a cup of marinade.
  2. Pour remaining marinade over drumsticks in a shallow dish. Cover, refrigerate and marinate for 2-4 hours.
  3. For the glaze, whisk together cornstarch and water. Pour into a saucepan and whisk in reserved marinade. Heat over medium-low heat until simmering. Reduce heat and simmer for 3-4 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl and cool at room temperature while chicken marinates.
  4. Heat outdoor grill to 400°F. Remove chicken drumsticks from marinade and place on hot grill. (Discard marinade.) Grill drumsticks for 16-20 minutes, turning every 5 minutes. Brush drumsticks with a few tablespoons of glaze during the last 5 minutes of cooking. Serve hot drizzle with remaining glaze.

THE STORY OF SOY SAUCE

Even people who love soy sauce and use it all the time are often surprised to learn what it is and how it’s made. We make ours from just four simple ingredients—water, soybeans, wheat, and salt. Those ingredients are transformed through a traditional brewing process—much like making wine or beer—that has remained unchanged for centuries.
