ingredients

1 pound elbow macaroni
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
½ teaspoon salt
2 cup freshly grated cheddar cheese
3 cups freshly grated aged white cheddar
⅓ cup + 2 tablespoons Kikkoman® Teriyaki Takumi, Original, divided
2 tablespoons chopped green onion for serving

directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375ºF. Cook macaroni in salted boiling water for 7 minutes, until al dente. Strain and set aside.
  2. While pasta cooks, melt butter over medium heat in a large oven-safe skillet. Whisk in flour to thicken. Gradually whisk in milk. Add 1 cup of cheddar cheese and 2 cups of white cheddar cheese. Stir until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth. Stir in Takumi sauce.
  3. Fold in macaroni until completely coated in cheese sauce. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  4. Serve hot, topped with green onion, and drizzled with remaining Takumi sauce.

THE STORY OF SOY SAUCE

Even people who love soy sauce and use it all the time are often surprised to learn what it is and how it’s made. We make ours from just four simple ingredients—water, soybeans, wheat, and salt. Those ingredients are transformed through a traditional brewing process—much like making wine or beer—that has remained unchanged for centuries.
