Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce

Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce, America’s original teriyaki, sets the standard for delicious sweet-savory teriyaki flavor. To make it, we blend our umami-rich traditionally brewed soy sauce with wine, sugar, vinegar, and a proprietary blend of seasonings to create an all-purpose sauce and condiment that’s perfect as a marinade, brush-on sauce, cooking ingredient, or condiment right from the bottle.

What is teriyaki sauce?

The sweet-savory flavor of teriyaki and its rich mahogany glaze have been a cornerstone of Japanese cooking since it was first prepared in Japan centuries ago as a simple mixture of umami-filled soy sauce and mirin, a sweet cooking wine. The lustrous sheen of the sauce, after it’s cooked, inspired the name teriyaki, meaning “glaze-broiled.” Japanese Americans in Hawaii added other teriyaki sauce ingredients like fresh ginger, brown sugar, pineapple juice and green onions to create the kind of sweet-savory teriyaki we know and love in the US today.

America’s Original Teriyaki

In 1961, Kikkoman launched America’s first bottled teriyaki—Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce, and the product has remained a favorite in US home kitchens and restaurants ever since. Over the years, we’ve added a variety of teriyaki products, including sauces, glazes, and our artisan Teriyaki Takumi line.
