About this recipe

Turn up the heat with this bold, smoky, grilled spicy steak recipe. A zesty blend of chipotle peppers, smoky spices, and Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce comes together for a bold marinade that brings heat, depth, and a touch of sweetness. Whether you’re firing up the grill for a weeknight dinner or weekend cookout, this is the kind of spicy steak that’ll keep people coming back for seconds.

Tips & Tricks

  • This works equally well with flank or skirt steak—just be sure to slice thinly across the grain for tenderness.
  • Wondering what temp to grill steak for medium-rare? Aim for 130–135°F internal temperature.
  • Add extra heat by adding some extra chipotle or sprinkling in crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Serve with grilled vegetables, rice, or stuff it into tacos for a killer fajita-style dinner.

ingredients

¼ cup Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped
1 teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
1½ – 2 pounds flank steak or skirt steak

directions

  1. Mix together teriyaki sauce, lime juice, olive oil, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, cumin, and smoked paprika in a small bowl.
  2. Add steak to a shallow glass dish and pour marinade on top. Cover and refrigerate for 1–4 hours.
  3. Heat grill or a grill pan to medium-high heat and grease with cooking oil. Add steak to grill and cook for 4–6 minutes per side, or until cooked to desired internal temperature.
  4. Let steak rest 5 minutes on a cutting board. Slice thinly against the grain. Enjoy warm.

THE STORY OF SOY SAUCE

Even people who love soy sauce and use it all the time are often surprised to learn what it is and how it’s made. We make ours from just four simple ingredients—water, soybeans, wheat, and salt. Those ingredients are transformed through a traditional brewing process—much like making wine or beer—that has remained unchanged for centuries.
