About
These bourbon baked beans aren’t your average side dish — they’re sweet, smoky, and have just the right hint of bourbon warmth. Navy beans simmer with sautéed onion, green pepper, and crispy bacon, all baked together in a tangy-sweet sauce made with ketchup, Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce, Kikkoman® Umami Joy Sauce, and a splash of bourbon. The result? Cozy comfort food with a bold twist. Whether you're firing up the grill or want a laid-back side for dinner, this bourbon baked beans recipe delivers big flavor with very little effort. Tips & Tricks- Want to make crock pot baked beans instead? Sauté the bacon, onion, and pepper, then combine everything in a slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours.
- For a punchier flavor, increase the bourbon to 2 tablespoons—or swap in maple syrup for a booze-free twist.
- Looking for a vegetarian version? Swap the bacon for a dash of liquid smoke or smoked paprika.
Ingredients
2 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
½ cup yellow onion, chopped
½ cup green bell pepper, chopped
2 tablespoons Kikkoman® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce
1 tablespoon Kikkoman® Umami Joy Sauce
½ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon bourbon
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
⅛ teaspoon black pepper
2 cans (15 oz each) navy beans or great northern beans, drained and rinsed
Directions
- Preheat to 350°F. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crispy, about 6–8 minutes. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside. Leave 1 tablespoon of bacon drippings in the pan.
- In the same skillet with bacon drippings, add onion and green pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes, until softened.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together teriyaki marinade & sauce, Umami Joy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, bourbon, yellow mustard, smoked paprika, and black pepper
- Stir in drained beans, cooked onion and pepper, and bacon. Pour into a greased 2-quart baking dish. Cover with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes. Uncover and stir gently. Bake an additional 10 minutes, until thick and bubbling.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.
